Wimbledon Village Stables Members are invited to visit the stables and watch the horses in training.  Arrive at 10.15 for coffee before going out to watch the horses at 10.45. The Balding family are the current custodians of the famous Park House training establishment. With over 170 horses in their care, effective teamwork is essential to the running of the successful operation.  A wealth of experience combined with the energy of youth provides a team for all seasons, to ensure that Kingsclere will move with the times, and that its future promises to continue the legacy of its glorious past. 11.30-12.30  If you’ve been wondering what all the fuss is about or been longing to have a go on the Equicise simulator, now is your chance!

We are offering this FREE session so you can come along and see how the simulator works for yourself. You will have the opportunity to ride the horse and  practice anything from your position on the horse, correct leg position, sitting trot as well as skills such as canter transitions, leg yield and shoulder in. 10.15-11.15 Grooming time is the perfect time to take note of a horse’s basic health and how he is feeling, so this session covers everything you need to know in order give your horse a relaxing and invigorating grooming session, and recognise any signs that your horse may not be feeling 100%. Become familiar with the many different brushes and tools available, learn how to pick out feet and wash a tail, and generally discover how to keep your horse looking immaculate.

Practical demonstrations will be followed by you having the opportunity to try everything for yourself. We will give you some useful handouts summarising the techniques and practices you have been shown.

From 10.15-11.15a.m. This essential session will teach you everything you need to know in order to get your horse ready for the off. From the easiest way to carry tack, to the best way to approach a stabled horse. From how to safely remove rugs, to the correct way to put on both saddle and bridle and, ultimately, lead your horse to the mounting block.

We will also show you exactly what to do after riding in order to leave your horse comfortable in the stable. Following practical demonstrations you will have the opportunity to practise techniques individually.

Bring a bottle of champagne and a picnic and settle down on the grass to watch our fantastic instructors riding through some dressage tests. They will also be able to answer any questions you might have as well as demonstrate any dressage moves that you would like to see and it will finish with them performing a brilliant musical ride. At the end of the evening there will be a collection for the Wimbledon & Putney Commons Conservators.

Improve your confidence and skill by learning safely in a controlled environment how to maintain your seat and balance.  EQUICISE has a specially adapted machine which is similar to the rodeo horses you get at parties but this one has a saddle and bridle too.  Firstly one of the EQUICISE team will demonstrate and after that we can set the speed to suit the individual – so we can make it as gentle (or fast) as you want as the object is to build your confidence.  You will not be falling off – It is a lesson in staying on board, enjoying the ride and finding fun in the challenge!  You will be amazed how much it will help and how confident you will feel afterwards. (£30 per person)

There are dozens of showing classes, including the prestigious final of the Tattersalls/RoR Thoroughbred Show Horse Championship, plus there's scurry driving and more. Saturday evening is party night, when everyone is invited to stay on at the showground for the entertaining Celebrity Polo Match

Ride London cycle race passes through Wimbledon Village and all the roads are closed for the day. so please, allow lots of extra time for your journey and check your route carefully to make sure you can get here. We have been given special permission to exit through the houses behind the stables so our rides will go out as usual apart from the 2.00 ride which is cancelled. You should make a day of it though and come riding and then spend time in the Village watching the ride go through.

Annual Summer Horse Show. To mark the end of the summer holidays we hold an annual show which is for our Members only. If you have never competed before but have always wanted to give it a go – this is the event for you but it is also suitable for more experienced riders. There are showing classes in the morning and show jumping in the afternoon and it is all managed in a supportive and encouraging way and our staff will be on hand to help you. There are fabulous rosettes for all, and the rider who gains the most points throughout the day is the Champion of the Day.

Let us know if you want to take part and we will enter you in the ballot. We also need volunteers to help us run the show, so if you would like to be involved but don’t want to ride, come along and help us!

British Horse Society: Stage 2 - Horse Knowledge and Care

This useful Course will build on what you have learnt from the Stage 1 Course and teach you what you need to know to manage your horses’ health and well being. You will learn how to care for stabled and grass-kept horses during all seasons of the year and it will include many practical sessions. The Course consists of a lesson one evening a week for ten consecutive weeks. If you want to take the exam you must be at least 16 years old and have completed BHS Stage 1. See BHS website for further information and for Exam dates and venues. You do not need to be a horse owner to join this course!

This is a magical event and has become an essential part of the Christmas festivities.

It is a traditional Carol concert, held in candlelight in the stable yard, with a choir, mince pies, mulled wine and even a visit from Santa. It is a perfect event for children but is thoroughly enjoyed by all ages and is open to all.

There are two performances one at 5 and the second at 6.30.  Tickets go on sale 1st November 2017 by collection from the stables office ONLY.

Save the Date! Our Charity Ball is the social event of the year! The evening starts with a glass of bubbly at the reception, before sitting down to a superb three course meal. There are a couple of short presentations followed by our famous raffle and the evening is rounded off by dancing until the early hours.  There are some excellent magicians to entertain you and as well as the brilliant Party Photo Booth.
