The weather couldn’t have been better for our 45th Annual Sponsored Horse Ride on Tuesday, 6th September which raised an impressive £15,500.

17 pairs of horses and riders completed the 10 mile ride wearing an array of colourful fancy dress costumes, which brought much bewilderment and amusement to passersby.  Judge John White once again did a fantastic job choosing the winners of the Fancy Dress Competition, awarding first prize to the fabulous Agnetha from Abba – our very own Anna Pankratova riding Oliver.

The main beneficiary of the funds raised by the ride was Brain Tumour Research, which will receive more than £11,000.  Other charities that will benefit are Cancer Research UK and Cecil’s Horse Sanctuary. The highest sponsored rider was Tilly who raised a whopping £2,437.50 for Brain Tumour Research.  The Rider of the day was Lara Milton who took part for the first time on Indie.  We would like to thank everyone who helped to make the day such a success, including Yhangry for providing delicious food for the participants, Cathy Gordon for the much appreciated bubbles and everyone who sponsored a rider and helped us achieve such an incredible total.

Charlie Allsebrook, community development manager for Brain Tumour Research, said: “Whilst incredibly successful and a lot of fun, this event also proved highly emotional for many of those involved because of their personal connections to brain tumours. We’re extremely grateful for their support and wish any of their loved ones still undergoing treatment, the best of luck. Brain tumours kill more children and adults under the age of 40 than any other cancer yet, historically, just 1% of the national spend on cancer research has been allocated to this devastating disease. We’re working to change this but it’s only by working together that we will improve treatment options for patients and, ultimately, find a cure.”
