Pilates for Horse-riders

Anyone that suffers from pain, injuries, niggles, muscle imbalances? Perhaps you feel unbalanced in the saddle and you want to improve your core and postural strength to feel safer in the saddle? Returning to riding after a break or having a baby? Want to prevent horse riding falls and injuries? Benefit from a small group class of maximum 6 people to ensure full individual focus? Benefit from a free one to one goal setting and medical screening for 15 minutes with Amanda before commencement of the 6 week programme to ensure your expectations and goals of the course are met.

Sunday 22 October - Sponsored Horse Ride

Day 1 of the 2017 ride!  For the past 41 years Carol and Caroline have been running an annual sponsored ride which, over the years has raised more than £500,000 for various national and local charities.

The ride takes place over a 10 mile course across the beautiful scenery of Wimbledon Common and Richmond Park and to make it a bit more fun everyone dresses up in Fancy Dress. Before we start the ride there is a wonderful parade down Wimbledon Village High Street and after the ride we all meet for a fabulous lunch and presentation of the rosettes.

If you would like to take part let us know so that you can enter the ballot to allocate the horses. The 2017 ride is going to be AMAZING!

Intensive Riding Course from Tuesday-Friday from 9.00-12.15.

An intensive course is an excellent way to improve and develop your riding rapidly. Our 4-day course gives you the opportunity to do this in a unique way.  Each day, you will begin with a 2 hour lesson in the arena followed by an hour riding theory or a chance use Equicise simulator, which will afford you the opportunity to work on and improve your weaknesses.

The opportunity for you to come along and look around the stables,  have a coffee and discuss your riding needs with one of our team. See our amazing equine simulator and find out how our Membership scheme works. We will try to answer all your questions in a relaxed informal environment and you will meet other like-minded potential riders. Feel free to come alone or with a group of friends.

10.15-11.15 Grooming time is the perfect time to take note of a horse’s basic health and how he is feeling, so this session covers everything you need to know in order give your horse a relaxing and invigorating grooming session, and recognise any signs that your horse may not be feeling 100%. Become familiar with the many different brushes and tools available, learn how to pick out feet and wash a tail, and generally discover how to keep your horse looking immaculate.

Practical demonstrations will be followed by you having the opportunity to try everything for yourself. We will give you some useful handouts summarising the techniques and practices you have been shown.

How to become a stronger more stable Horse Rider 4 pm Amanda Hall is a equestrian physiotherapist who holds a Masters in Health Practise and has been working with horse riders of all levels for 10 years. Amanda runs physiotherapy clinics as well as Pilates for Horse Rider courses here at the stables. On the day Amanda will discuss how common riding imbalances and injuries can affect your riding performance, she will take the time to outline how to prevent injury via strengthening exercises such as Pilates and the simulator to improve posture, breathing, strength, flexibility and balance. Part of the talk will be an interactive session where you will have time to practise exercises and stretches which will benefit you before and after your ride. There will also be an opportunity for questions at the end to discuss any injury concerns you have with Amanda on the day. Places are limited to 15 people We ask for a gold coin donation on the day - all proceeds will go to the Brooke Foundation for Working Donkeys and Horses. The Library of the Dog and Fox at 7.30 p.m. WVS is proud to present an informal and relaxed evening with Yogi Breisner, formerly Team GB Eventing Performance Manager where he ran the world class programme for equestrianism.  Yogi will reflect on his time in the British equestrian coaching hot seat and share anecdotes and insight from the last four Olympic cycles, as well as help everyone to appreciate the tough sport of eventing.  This evening promises to be entertaining and enlightening for everyone who loves horses. £20 for WVS Members, (£30 Non Members)  CLICK HERE TO BUY TICKETS

Saturday 25 November - Tacking-up Workshop

From 10.15-11.15a.m. This essential session will teach you everything you need to know in order to get your horse ready for the off. From the easiest way to carry tack, to the best way to approach a stabled horse. From how to safely remove rugs, to the correct way to put on both saddle and bridle and, ultimately, lead your horse to the mounting block.

We will also show you exactly what to do after riding in order to leave your horse comfortable in the stable. Following practical demonstrations you will have the opportunity to practise techniques individually.

2.00-3.00   Our wonderful new addition to the stables  The Fantastic Mr Fudge, or Fudge to his friends is a 14 year old miniature Shetland pony.   WVS Members  who would like to become 'Friends of 'The Fantastic Mr Fudge' can take him out for walks on the Common (be prepared for a lot of attention!) and we are also hoping to find people interested in taking him to any charity events.  Please come along to this special Fudge Knowledge Course to find out what is involved.

His walk times are 10.15 and 2.00 every day.

This is a magical event and has become an essential part of the Christmas festivities.

It is a traditional Carol concert, held in candlelight in the stable yard, with a choir, mince pies, mulled wine and even a visit from Santa. It is a perfect event for children but is thoroughly enjoyed by all ages and is open to all.

There are two performances one at 5 and the second at 6.30.  Tickets go on sale 1st November 2017 by collection from the stables office ONLY.

When we want to feel at one with a horse, we need to pay attention to our posture on the horse/ alignment in the saddle. An opportunity for WVS Members to take part in the annual winter dressage competition with the winner being presented with the Vivien Colyer trophy at the annual charity ball on 11th March.

This year the test is Prelim 14.  Let your instructor know if you would like to take part and practice in your lessons, and for an extra edge book a lesson on the simulator to get the best out of your horse!

Save the Date! Our Charity Ball is the social event of the year! The evening starts with a glass of bubbly at the reception, before sitting down to a superb three course meal. There are a couple of short presentations followed by our famous raffle and the evening is rounded off by dancing until the early hours.

Ride London cycle race passes through Wimbledon Village and all the roads are closed for the day. so please, allow lots of extra time for your journey and check your route carefully to make sure you can get here. We have been given special permission to exit through the houses behind the stables so our rides will go out as usual. You should make a day of it though and come riding and then spend time in the Village watching the ride go through.

Annual Summer Horse Show. To mark the end of the summer holidays we hold an annual show which is for our Members only. If you have never competed before but have always wanted to give it a go – this is the event for you but it is also suitable for more experienced riders. There are showing classes in the morning and show jumping in the afternoon and it is all managed in a supportive and encouraging way and our staff will be on hand to help you. There are fabulous rosettes for all, and the rider who gains the most points throughout the day is the Champion of the Day.

Let us know if you want to take part and we will enter you in the ballot. We also need volunteers to help us run the show, so if you would like to be involved but don’t want to ride, come along and help us!
