It's the event we've all been waiting for - the Members' Christmas Dinner!  Join us for a delicious Christmas Party meal with hats, crackers, party games and fun at our exciting new venue, the Fox & Grapes on Wimbledon Common, the only independent pub in Wimbledon Village! £45 per head includes half a bottle of wine per person plus service.  If you want to make a night of it you can even book to stay over in one of their super comfy hotel rooms and you will be ready for your ride in the morning!

You should arrive anytime from 8.00 and don't worry if you have no previous experience as there is always plenty of sweeping to be done as well as making teas, coffees and breakfast for the volunteers! After the work is done we will have some delicious bacon sarnies and buck's fizz. Anyone that helps (Members only) can have a free ride during the Christmas Holiday Period (between 22nd December and 9th January.

10.30-11.15  Our Open Morning gives you the opportunity to come and look around the stables and discuss your riding needs with one of our team.  You can find out all about the benefits of Membership and you will have the opportunity to see our amazing Horse Simulator and even have a free 10 minute assessment on it.  We will try to answer all your questions in a relaxed informal environment and you will meet other like-minded potential riders. Feel free to come alone or with a group of friends.

British Horse Society: Stage 1- Horse Knowledge and Care

Whether you are a horse owner or a part time hobbyist this useful course will enhance your knowledge and improve your practical skills.   You will learn all aspects of caring for horses, from understanding horse behaviour, safe handling of horses, recognising signs of good health, be able to carry out routine tasks, such as tacking up, care of tack and tack fitting, rugging up, mucking out, bedding down and providing food and water, care of field kept horse, care of horses before and after work. If you are wishing to start your equine career this course is the first rung on the British Horse Society Professional career pathway..  The lessons are fun and interactive and invaluable for all horse enthusiasts. You do not need to take the exam or be a horse owner to join this course! 11.30  In the Equicise Studio Horses are wonderful animals and we should all take the time to learn a little about their behaviour and try to understand how they view the world.  This talk will help you to develop the best possible partnership with any horse you may ride as you will be able to appreciate the reasons behind their reactions in a variety of situations – especially unexpected ones – and respond accordingly.  We will discuss what prompts horses to react in certain ways and what riders should do to take control of the situation, thereby improving their safety and confidence.

7.30  Our wonderful summer bbq is a 'go to' event and one not to be missed! Bring friends and family and join us  in the stable yard where you can enjoy a welcome drink followed by a delicious BBQ served by 'Catered By Justin'.  There will be a cash bar served out of Justin's brand new bespoke Horse Box Bar' and a Live Band. We look forward to a fun and sociable evening in excellent company!

The Open Day at the Windmill is a fun filled day which includes, Dog Display Teams, Bird of Prey Display team, The Household Cavalry and a special fun display of the Wimbledon Village Stables mounted games team!    There are over 60 stalls to browse, including local charity and craft stall and  a great selection of food stalls, with something for everyone's taste, along with Wimbledon Brewery.  There are Reptile Events, Parnhams Funfair, Amy the Sheep and tractor/trailer rides around the Commons

At 3.15 pm Weather permitting!  Fingers crossed for a fine day - if it is bring a bottle of champagne and a picnic and settle down on the grass and watch some of  our wonderful horses being put through their paces by the WVS team.  This is aimed at all our WVS Members who would like to develop and improve their riding.  At the end of the display there will be a collection for the Wimbledon & Putney Commons Conservators. British Horse Society: Stage 2 - Horse Knowledge and Care

This Stage 2 course is invaluable for those who want a more in depth knowledge of the care and management of horses.  Understanding of routine practices on a stable yard, your role, responsibilities and reporting lines, caring for horses on a day-to-day basis, recognising and assessing normal and abnormal behaviour and understanding when veterinary intervention may be required, fitting standard tack and travel equipment, prepare horses for presentation, feeding and an understanding of fitness, understanding of basic anatomy, location of key organs and the function of the digestive system  See BHS website for further information and for Exam dates and venues. The lessons are fun and interactive and invaluable for all horse enthusiasts.  You do not need to take the exam or be a horse owner to join this course!

Our Annual Sponsored Ride is our biggest fundraising event. Over the last 45 years we have raised nearly £1 million with over £350,000 for the Royal Marsden Cancer Charity alone. The ten mile ride covers Wimbledon Common and Richmond Park and finishes with lunch and prize giving at the Stables. To make it more fun (and challenging!) everyone wears fancy dress and  the parade down the High Street on the way out and back is a real highlight of the day. In 2020 we will be supporting the Royal Marsden Cancer Charity & Wimbledon and Putney Commons Conservators.  WVS Members are invited to take part in the ride on either Sunday or Tuesday so put the date in your diary and start planning your costume!

Our magical Christmas Carol Concert is an essential part of the Christmas festivities. Carols are sung in the Stable Yard accompanied by a choir and, for the children, there is even a visit from Santa. Hot drinks, mulled wine and mince pies are served. It is a wonderful event enjoyed by children of all ages and adults too! There are two performances one at 5 and the second at 6.15. Numbers are limited, and tickets sell out FAST.
