In this session you will learn how to tack up a horse and have him ready to ride,  you will learn how to correctly carry tack, how to approach a stabled horse, safely remove rugs, and put on both saddle and bridle and of course learn how to take it all off again and rug the horse up if required.  After being shown you will be able to do it yourself.  Free for Members (Non-members £20) BOOK NOW

Royal Windsor Horse Show   is the UK's largest outdoor horse show with international competitions in 3 different equestrian discipline.  We are planning a get together for WVS Members in the Exclusive Windsor Enclosure on Saturday 11th May. 4.30 pm  Are you a bit nervous around horses? Or do you suddenly go deaf when your human sees horses and calls you to heel?  Expert dog trainer Andy Weaver can help you and your human family be more confident around horses on the Common.  Andy is a a retired police dog handler and trainer and now runs a Kennel Club registered dog training club promoting the Kennel Club Good Citizen's Award.  This aims to educate owners in their responsibilities as dog owners and give advice and guidance on training their dog.  Join us at Wimbledon Village Stables to find out more.  Free doggie treats for all who put their paws up. For dogs who walk on Wimbledon Common. 10.15-11.15 All you need to know about grooming. Grooming time is the perfect time to take note of a horse’s basic health and how he is feeling, so this session covers everything you need to know in order give your horse a relaxing and invigorating grooming session, and recognise any signs that your horse may not be feeling 100%. 10.15-11.15   Our wonderful new addition to the stables  The Fantastic Mr Fudge, or Fudge to his friends is a 14 year old miniature Shetland pony.   WVS Members  who would like to become 'Friends of 'The Fantastic Mr Fudge' can take him out for walks on the Common (be prepared for a lot of attention!) and we are also hoping to find people interested in taking him to any charity events.  Please come along to this special Fudge Handling  Course to find out what is involved.

He has two walks a day, one in the morning and one after lunch.

Our Summer Dressage Competition is for WVS Members only and takes place on the Causeway, Wimbledon Common.  Times between 8.30 and 12.15. The test will be prelim 18. It gives you the opportunity to put into practice everything you have learnt in your lessons and hopefully come home with a rosette!  Let your instructor know if you would like to take part and start learning the test!  Rosettes 1st-6th

Ride London cycle race passes through Wimbledon Village and all the roads are closed for the day. so please, allow lots of extra time for your journey and check your route carefully to make sure you can get here. We have been given special permission to exit through the houses behind the stables so our rides will go out as usual. You should make a day of it though and come riding and then spend time in the Village watching the ride go through.

Annual Summer Horse Show. To mark the end of the summer holidays we hold an annual show which is for our Members only. If you have never competed before but have always wanted to give it a go – this is the event for you but it is also suitable for more experienced riders. There are showing classes in the morning and show jumping in the afternoon and it is all managed in a supportive and encouraging way and our staff will be on hand to help you. There are fabulous rosettes for all, and the rider who gains the most points throughout the day is the Champion of the Day.

Let us know if you want to take part and we will enter you in the ballot. We also need volunteers to help us run the show, so if you would like to be involved but don’t want to ride, come along and help us!

This is a great course for anyone wanting to know more about looking after horses and providing you with the knowledge and practice of looking after a well-mannered horse in the stable and at grass. Those wishing to take the exam at the end of the course must be current members of the BHS and over 14 years of age. Copies of the syllabus and details on exam dates and venues are available from the British Horse Society

7pm - 8.30pm for 10 weeks.  Members £250, non members £300.

7.30 In the Equicise Studio Horses are wonderful animals and we should all take the time to learn a little about their behaviour and try to understand how they view the world.  This talk will help you to develop the best possible partnership with any horse you may ride as you will be able to appreciate the reasons behind their reactions in a variety of situations – especially unexpected ones – and respond accordingly.  We will discuss what prompts horses to react in certain ways and what riders should do to take control of the situation, thereby improving their safety and confidence.

We at WVS are committed to raising money for Charity and our Annual Sponsored Ride is our biggest event raising nearly £1 million pounds over the last 44 years with over £340,000 for the Royal Marsden Cancer Charity alone. WVS Members are invited to take part in the ride on Sunday or Tuesday and all we ask is that you raise a minimum amount via Justgiving for our chosen charity. To make it more fun (and challenging!) you will also need to think of a fancy dress outfit to wear. The ten mile ride covers Wimbledon Common and Richmond Park and includes a wonderful parade down the High Street on the way out and back and finishes with lunch and prize giving. Put the date in your diary and start planning your costume!

Our magical Christmas Carol Concert is an essential part of the Christmas festivities. Carols are sung in the Stable Yard accompanied by a choir and, for the children, there is even a visit from Santa. Hot drinks, mulled wine and mince pies are served. It is a wonderful event enjoyed by children of all ages and adults too! There are two performances one at 5 and the second at 6.15. Numbers are limited, and tickets sell out FAST.
