Intensive Riding Course from Tuesday-Friday from 9.00-12.15.

An intensive course is an excellent way to improve and develop your riding rapidly. Our 4-day course gives you the opportunity to do this in a unique way.  Each day, you will begin with a 2 hour lesson in the arena followed by an hour riding theory or a chance use Equicise simulator, which will afford you the opportunity to work on and improve your weaknesses.

Start Christmas day off bright and early by coming in to help us out with the early yard work. You should arrive anytime from 8.00 and don't worry if you have no previous experience as there is always plenty of sweeping to be done as well as making teas, coffees and breakfast for the volunteers! After the work is done we will have some delicious bacon sarnies and buck's fizz. Anyone that helps (Members only) can have a free ride during the Christmas Holiday Period (between 22nd December and 9th January.

Start of next Short Riding Courses. We hold a series of Short Riding Courses and Horse Care for riders of all abilities. A short course can be the perfect introduction to the challenging and rewarding world of riding or, for those who have ridden before, a great way to build on experience already gained. The opportunity for you to come along and look around the stables,  have a coffee and discuss your riding needs with one of our team. See our amazing equine simulator and find out how our Membership scheme works. We will try to answer all your questions in a relaxed informal environment and you will meet other like-minded potential riders. Feel free to come alone or with a group of friends.

If you are interested in attending please email Claire or give us a ring to find out more.  This is for adult weekday riders of any standard, including complete beginners. Starting at 10.30.

British Horse Society: Stage 1 - Horse Knowledge and Care

This is a great course for anyone wanting to know more about looking after horses and providing you with the knowledge and practice of looking after a well-mannered horse in the stable and at grass. Those wishing to take the exam at the end of the course must be current members of the BHS and over 14 years of age. Copies of the syllabus and details on exam dates and venues are available from the British Horse Society

7pm - 8.30pm for 10 weeks.  Members £250, non members £300.

10.15-11.15   Our wonderful new addition to the stables  The Fantastic Mr Fudge, or Fudge to his friends is a 14 year old miniature Shetland pony.   WVS Members  who would like to become 'Friends of 'The Fantastic Mr Fudge' can take him out for walks on the Common (be prepared for a lot of attention!) and we are also hoping to find people interested in taking him to any charity events.  Please come along to this special Fudge Handling  Course to find out what is involved.

He has two walks a day, one in the morning and one after lunch.

10.15-11.15 All you need to know about grooming. Grooming time is the perfect time to take note of a horse’s basic health and how he is feeling, so this session covers everything you need to know in order give your horse a relaxing and invigorating grooming session, and recognise any signs that your horse may not be feeling 100%. An opportunity for WVS Members to take part in the Annual Winter Dressage competition with the winner being presented with the Vivien Colyer trophy At our Annual Charity Ball on 3rd March.

This year the test is Prelim 12.  Let your instructor know if you would like to take part and practice in your lessons, and for an extra edge book a lesson on the simulator to get the best out of your horse!

SAVE THE DATE! The WVS Charity Ball at the Hotel du Vin, Wimbledon is THE social event of the year! Starting with a reception in the with bubbles flowing, followed by a superb three course meal,  and rounded off by dancing until the early hours to our live band. Come on your own, or bring family and friends you will be guaranteed to have a good time!

Bring a bottle of champagne and a picnic and settle down on the grass to watch our fantastic instructors riding through some dressage tests. They will also be able to answer any questions you might have as well as demonstrate any dressage moves that you would like to see and it will finish with them performing a brilliant musical ride. Our Summer Dressage Competition is for WVS Members only and takes place on the Causeway, Wimbledon Common.  Times between 8.30 and 12.15. The test will be prelim 18. It gives you the opportunity to put into practice everything you have learnt in your lessons and hopefully come home with a rosette!  Let your instructor know if you would like to take part and start learning the test!  Rosettes 1st-6th

July 2019 -  RideLondon

Ride London cycle race passes through Wimbledon Village and all the roads are closed for the day. so please, allow lots of extra time for your journey and check your route carefully to make sure you can get here. We have been given special permission to exit through the houses behind the stables so our rides will go out as usual. You should make a day of it though and come riding and then spend time in the Village watching the ride go through.

For a special treat for you and your friends, join us in our private ringside box for a fabulous day out at Hickstead. With unparalleled views of the International Arena, you can relax in style and enjoy great food as all the action unfolds before you.  Saturday afternoon plays host to the British Speed Derby, where riders tackle some of our permanent fences at top speed.  The Hickstead Derby Meeting is best known for its international showjumping classes, but there is plenty more on offer for equestrian fans. There are dozens of showing classes , plus there's scurry driving and more.

August, 2019 - Members' Horse Show

Annual Summer Horse Show. To mark the end of the summer holidays we hold an annual show which is for our Members only. If you have never competed before but have always wanted to give it a go – this is the event for you but it is also suitable for more experienced riders. There are showing classes in the morning and show jumping in the afternoon and it is all managed in a supportive and encouraging way and our staff will be on hand to help you. There are fabulous rosettes for all, and the rider who gains the most points throughout the day is the Champion of the Day.

Let us know if you want to take part and we will enter you in the ballot. We also need volunteers to help us run the show, so if you would like to be involved but don’t want to ride, come along and help us!

We at WVS are committed to raising money for Charity and our Annual Sponsored Ride is our biggest event raising nearly £1 million pounds over the last 44 years with over £340,000 for the Royal Marsden Cancer Charity alone. WVS Members are invited to take part in the ride on Sunday or Tuesday and all we ask is that you raise a minimum amount via Justgiving for our chosen charity. To make it more fun (and challenging!) you will also need to think of a fancy dress outfit to wear. The ten mile ride covers Wimbledon Common and Richmond Park and includes a wonderful parade down the High Street on the way out and back and finishes with lunch and prize giving. Put the date in your diary and start planning your costume!

Our magical Christmas Carol Concert is an essential part of the Christmas festivities. Carols are sung in the Stable Yard accompanied by a choir and, for the children, there is even a visit from Santa. Hot drinks, mulled wine and mince pies are served. It is a wonderful event enjoyed by children of all ages and adults too! There are two performances one at 5 and the second at 6.15. Numbers are limited, and tickets sell out FAST.
