The actor, above, brought his Clydesdale horse Bruce, wife Phillipa and daughter Emily for a ride on Wimbledon Common this morning, taking in the sights and his former home by the Fox and Grapes pub in Camp Road.

Mr Clunes drew a crowd at Wimbledon Village Stables before the family set off with stables owner Carol Andrews and yard manager Jen Fryer.

He was visiting the stables in his capacity as president of the British Horse Society, enjoying a lunch at the White Onion in the Village after the ride with 70 people who had purchased tickets to join him.

The event will raise money for the British Horse Society. Ms Fryer said: “It was absolutely fantastic and we had a lovely ride around the Common.

 “Martin’s horses were very well behaved given it is a new environment.

“He felt very proud to come here; he grew up in Wimbledon Village.”

Mr Clunes brought his five year-old Clydesdale Bruce, above, and his daughter Emily’s horse Swift from their Dorset home for the event.
