What an incredible day! Our 50th Annual Sponsored Ride on Saturday 14th September was a resounding success, and it’s all thanks to the amazing people who came together to make it a truly memorable event. Even the weather was on our side, so whoever pulled some strings for that, you’re a legend!
In no particular order, we’d like to extend our heartfelt thanks:
Robert Holmes, of Robert Holmes Estate Agents, for sponsoring this event, and so many others throughout the year. We were thrilled to have him present the prizes in the yard.
All the riders who embraced the spirit of the day by donning the most wonderfully creative and crazy costumes. You brought so much color and fun to the ride, and a massive thank you to everyone who sponsored the riders—we’ve raised over £10,000 so far, and the total is still climbing!
Our fantastic photographer, Laurence Power, who captured the magic of the day, with help from Peter and Marion, who whisked him around to all the best spots—and kept everyone going with port and Mars bars mid-ride!
Judge John (White), who traveled all the way from Winchester, complete with his iconic wig and robes, to give us a judging performance that had everyone in stitches. His hilarious and inimitable style made announcing the winners an event in itself!
A big shoutout to the Wimbledon Guild and the Wimbledon Village Business Association for throwing their full support behind the event and turning Wimbledon Village into a fabulous “Dress Up Day.” The High Street was packed with people cheering us on during our parade, and we were delighted to have Ghillie, one of the Keepers of Wimbledon Common, joining us in his smart bowler hat and breeches.
Special thanks to Clemence from Clementine Communications for providing the celebratory drinks at the prize giving, and to our incredible WVS staff for all their hard work: preparing the horses, handling admin, and making sure everything ran smoothly. Shoutout to Clarie, Ella, Maria, and the wonderful Saturday riders: Anna, Niamh, and Edwina for holding the fort at home!
Caroline and I couldn’t be prouder of how this 50th Sponsored Ride turned out—it was a day to remember, and we couldn’t have done it without all of you!
