westernThis fabulous fun event reached its emotional height as our sparkling instructors lined up in front of the guests, to capture that shared birthday moment.

With everyone looking on, they glittered literally in a star burst of camera flashes and in whoops of excitement from the crowd.  A perfect summer’s evening (in September!) started with drinks and chats whilst we admired costumes that included cowboys, cowgirls and Mexican bandits.  Soon the instructors were busy in their early skirmishes with the remarkable mechanical bull, with its evil lit up red eyes.  In a “with chaps” score Jen notched up an incredible score of 70+ seconds on the bull, the evening’s record.

In no time we are all country dancing squares, circles, chains, arches and galloping across the yard.  To one side was a lassoing game, with shooting to the other.  Justin did us all proud with his amazing hog roast and no sooner had we had chance to digest the lovely food then it was time for us all to get together.

John White (Chair of WVS Events Committee), spoke of WVS’ members’ club and our flagship annual events, then introduced Davina and Kerri-Lyn and Jane.  They each spoke passionately about how important WVS is in their lives, emphasising the stables is our family.  It was Carol and Caroline who called the instructors to form their magical line up and they delivered their thanks to all who had made the evening so much fun and so successful.

It was then back on to the dance floor.  For some reason the dancing was by now a little bit more random than earlier!  For those who felt they missed collisions on the dance floor there was still the bull to bring them back down to earth – literally.  Dedicated bull riders, John, Ainslie and Ben (Davina’s husband) carried on towards midnight, when finally a dream of an evening had to come to a close.  Who knows, one day this will be a very pleasant page in the wonderful history of WVS.  Happy 35th Birthday WVS – it was an unforgettable evening.
